We love animals, don’t we? Especially with all the fun, interactive, and boozy events cropping up around Houston to hang out with our mammalian friends, it’s just like we can’t get enough of them.
In some ways, these opportunities feed into our desire to get back in touch with our primal roots. While the call of the wild might lead you into a trip to the plains down in Africa, you can save the time and money with a safari at the Bayou Wildlife Zoo in Houston.
In Alvin, Texas, just outside of Houston, is the Bayou Wildlife Zoo. The zoo offers 80 acres of natural habitat inhabited by over 400 exotic animals, reptiles, and birds from all corners of the world.
In some zoos, the animals are locked up, or put in cages which I think we can all agree is a rather depressing sight. At the Bayou Wildlife Zoo, however, the animals freely roam. Here, you can pet, feed, and interact with over 60 species of animals.
The zoo offers tram rides, simulating a bumpy jeep ride through the Serengeti. This guided tour allows you to get up close and personal with zebras, buffalo, and more. Don’t forget to also stop by their monkey islands and alligator pond!
Additionally, the zoo has a petting zoo, pony rides, and encourages visitors to pack their own lunches so that they can have a picnic in the wide open air of their picnic area.
If you’ve felt the urge to get back in touch with nature, sojourn over to the Bayou Wildlife Zoo in your own backyard!
