Houston’s cocktail scene is strong – particularly in Montrose. Following the opening of the sleek new Jethro’s Cocktail Lounge, as well as three Montrose bars being named on Esquire’s list of The Best Bars In America 2024, a new cocktail lounge is set to debut in Houston.
This weekend July, Sophie Cocktail Lounge & Terrace Bar opens its gorgeous South-of-France-inspired bistro and rooftop at Montrose Collective. The two-story new lounge features two floors: the 20-seat Downstairs cocktail bar and expansive second floor with an expansive 2,000-square-foot, open-air terrace.
Situated in the company of Uchi and Marmo at Montrose Collective, Sophie provides a darkly romantic new destination for lovers, friends, and more.
Designed by EAMStudio international branding and design firm, its dramatic, dark-red walls, velvet seating, Philippine de Richemont paintings, and oversized glass chandeliers create what the bar calls an “aristocrat-meets-artist” atmosphere.
It’s chic, indoor/outdoor rooftop patio seats up to 80 guests. Adorned with lush accents, the open-air terrace provides an under the sun experience with idyllic views of Montrose.
Sophie’s French-inspired menu is headed by Chef de Cuisine Anthony Anderson of Uchi, Uchiko, and Nobie’s. Highlights from the menu include Thon Cru, featuring marinated yellowfin tuna and saffron potato with Kaluga huso caviar; Fettuccine with lemon butter and Kaluga huso caviar; and The Swan, a pistachio cake with pistachio sable and raspberry confit; and a diverse selection of cheese and wild game charcuterie.
From the bar, Sophie features a menu of signature and presentation-based cocktails. Highlights include the The King’s Lover, crafted with Roasted Barley Brioche Kettle One Vodka, Liquor 43, and Maven cold brew; Mademoiselle Sophie, made with Hendrick’s Flora Adora, lime, Chambord, and simple syrup; and Scent of a Rose, which includes Kettle One Rose and grapefruit Vodka, rose syrup, lemon, elderflower, and sparkling rosé.
Domestic and French wines, seasonal spritz, house-curated shots, and experiential cocktails will also be available.
After briefly postponing in wake of Beryl, Sophie is set to hosts its grand opening at Montrose Collective this Friday, July 19. Reservations are now available; Friday is completely booked, but as of Wednesday morning, there are reservations available for brunch on July 20 (from noon to 4 pm) as well as availabilities for brunch, dinner, and drinks on Sunday July 21.
Once open, the venue will be open daily from 4 pm to 2 am with a Happy Hour from 4 pm – 7 pm on Monday through Friday. Sophie will also feature a weekend brunch from noon to 4 pm, weekly menu specials, as well as live music and rooftop DJ sets.
