Houston’s bar and cocktail culture in simply intoxicating. From award-winning, nationally-recognized bars, to surreptitious speakeasies, and kooky science-lab like cocktail bars, Houston has it all.
Newest on the Houston cocktail scene is Jethro’s Cocktail Lounge. Located on the east side of Montrose, Jethro’s features an expansive, 2,200-square-foot bar with lounge seating, a walk-up bar, and an airy patio.
Jethro’s Cocktail Lounge is fourth project from native Texans Russell Malixi and Wade McElroy who opened up a number of successful bars and restaurants in Los Angeles. For Jethro’s, the Texas duo partnered with Andrew Corbett of California.
“Texas was calling me home, and Montrose seemed like the perfect place to launch Jethro’s,” said Malixi in a press release. “The welcoming vibe reminded me a little of LA, but the bustling nightlife scene and neighborhood feel is really what sealed the deal.”
The cocktail list at Jethro’s short and sweet. Its menu consists of 10 cocktails, a quartet of beers, and a short selection of wines by the glass. Featured cocktails include the Backyard Sour, mixed with bourbon, mango puree, lemon, and aquafaba; Mezclada with mezcal, tamarindo, michelada, lager, and cilantro; and Cheers to Papa with safe-infused gin, lemon, cantaloupe, and simple syrup.
Jethro’s also serves a number of edible items, including a smashburger, plant-based smashburger, and fries.
“We wanted to bring an elevated but approachable bar to the area. Our cocktails are desirable any time of day from lunch to a happy hour sip or after dinner nightcap. Come in and unwind. That’s what we like to say,” Malixi said.
Visitors can find parking in a shared lot across the street.
Jethro’s is now open at 95 Tuam St. The cocktail bar is open from 4 pm to midnight Tuesday through Thursday; from 4 pm to 2 am Friday, from noon to 2 am on Saturday, and from noon to midnight on Sunday.
