Fueled by a marketing campaign that encompasses everything: clothing collections, appliances, music, makeup, food, and of course toys – Barbie fever has taken over the world, Houston included. In celebration of the premier, we’ve imagined what Barbie’s life would be like in Houston – more specifically, where we think that would do right by Barbie in her efforts to paint the town pink!
1. PopFancy Dessert Bar Barbie Pop-Up
Nowhere is there more apt a hangout for Houston Barbies than a Barbie’s Dreamhouse pop-up. On July 28, PopFancy Dessert Bar in Bellaire are turning their pop-up venue into a pink palace in celebration of the new Greta Gerwig movie.
2. Cupfusion Cakery
Sweet treats and a welcome shot of good times? Say no more. Cupfusion Cakery is a sure-fire Barbie hangout found at 2805 White Oak Dr. Here, customers can enjoy cupcakes infused with their favorite spirits inside an Instagram-ready boutique.
3. Cactus Music
Mattel might have sued Aqua’s label for Barbie Girl back in the day, but seeing as how the company is using the track one way or other to market the new movie maybe it’s safe to assume that it’s all water under the bridge? In any case, H-town Barbie Girls can get what they need to soundtrack their next night out at Cactus Music independent record shop at 2110 Portsmouth.
4. Little Hen
While not admittedly dialed into Barbie lore, we think it’s safe to assume that Barbie is the queen of brunch. As such, we imagine that she would have the head seat of one of the many tables at the darling Little Hen bistro. Housed in a fairy tale-like environment, Little Hen offers everything from Rose Petal Pancakes to Chicken & Waffles.
5. Common Bond Brasserie & Bakery
Normalize pastries and cocktails – that’s what we say. Thankfully, there are multiple places in Houston where you can bring the best of worlds together. At Common Bond Brasserie & Bakery’s Theater District, you can enjoy an afternoon pick-me-up in a Barbie-worthy interior and one, bubble gum-styled back dining room and bar.
6. Rooftop Cinema Club
This summer, Rooftop Cinema Club transforming their open-air venue into Barbie Land in celebration of the new movie. Not only will the cinema group be projecting Barbie with their new state-of-the-art DCP projector, but will be offering a Barbie-inspired pink hard seltzer, with a special ticket type from July 20 to August 9.
7. Houston SpaWorld
If Barbie in Houston were to relax, reflect, and maybe participate in a little karaoke, she’d spend an afternoon at Houston SpaWorld. Located in Katy, SpaWorld features 9 separately themed sauna rooms, outdoor terraces, napping pods, a bar, and more!
8. Houston Toy Museum
It’s Barbie week at the Houston Toy Museum, a “nostalgic experience where toys, pop culture, and history collide”. In light of the new movie, the museum is hosting a special exhibition about the history of the iconic doll, detailing its history with respect to its creators down to Barbie’s wardrobes.
9. The Galleria
One imagines Barbie perusing The Galleria’s many high-end retailers, not excluding Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, FENDI, and more. We’d also like to think that Barbie wouldn’t miss an opportunity to lace up her pristinely pink ice skates and dazzle on The Galleria’s hopefully soon-opening renovated ice rink.
10. Marriot Marquis
Kicking back by pool, sipping on sparkling cocktails, and taking in the views of the gorgeous downtown rooftop are all reasons that Barbie would find herself in her element at Marriot Marquis. For non hotel-goers, Day Passes are available for $50 that includes access to food and beverages.
