They say everything is bigger in Texas. That may be true for certain waterparks, convenient stores, and miscellaneous statues, but it’s not necessarily true for local bars. Think smaller this March, when the new High Five Mini Bar hits The Stomping Grounds scene with refreshing cocktails made inside a tiny container.
High Five will make its debut at The Stomping Grounds on March 29. The Garden Oaks area, opened in 2022, is a favorite for neighbors and families, with a variety of child-focused studios, retail, and restaurants including Fat Cat Creamery, The Pho Fix, and Rooster & Rice. The Stomping Grounds also features an 8,000-square-foot lawn.
The tiny container bar concept, lead by Chris Cusack and Will Ebarb, will feature refreshing craft cocktails such as the Sunny D – a Vodka-infused Orange Lazarus-based cocktail, Laid Back – triple sec, grapefruit lemonade, gin, and hibiscus, and the High Five Rise made with cantaloupe agua fresca, grenadine, agave, and tequila.
Cusack is the owner of pizza-based Houston dive Betelgeuse Betelgeuse and also has experience from working with The Pastry War and tropical Tiki bar, Lei Low.
“Stomping Grounds is in the heart of our neighborhood and we’re thrilled to be able to offer a new element to its nightlife scene and offer some quality cocktails to our neighbors,” Cusack said in a press release.
The bar itself, a colorful mid-century modern container, Ebarb stated, was inspired by cartoons that he grew up on such as The Jetsons.
“Looking forward to being your new neighborhood bar in the GOOF,” the bar wrote in an Instagram post. “At High Five Mini Bar we will be slinging fun, refreshing cocktails and stirring up boozy libations for your enjoyment very soon”
High Five plans to host a grand opening on March 29 with a live music performance by Swimwear Department.
