Houston’s is quickly becoming a resort destination. Great Wolf Lodge Waterpark, Generation Park surf and event resort, and the coming new $250 million Margaritaville in Galveston are all in development in the Houston area. Recently, Sports Illustrated – yes, that Sports Illustrated – announced that it was bringing a nine-story development in Lago Mar with amenities galore.
Who are the developers?
The coming Sports Illustrated resort in Houston area is through a partnership of Sports Hospitality Ventures, a licensee of Sports Illustrated, and The Lagoon Development Company.
“We are thrilled to announce and welcome the arrival of the Sports Illustrated Resorts to Lago Mar,” said Founder and CEO of Lagoon Development, Uri Man. “This partnership blends the dynamic energy of sports with the exceptional hospitality of Texas, creating a haven in the heart of the Lone Star State.”
What is the rooming situation?
The 9-story resort will feature 200 rooms with a range of floor plans. Depending on preference, rooms will cater to families as well as professionals on the go, including rooms with lagoon-facing views.
What are the amenities?
Slated amenities will include a Stadium Sports Grill as well as the Sports Illustrated Beach Club that which will feature a swim-up island bar, resort services, an in-pool rock climbing wall, and beachside cabanas.
The press release also features photos of the Field of Dreams bar-side baseball diamond and batting cages.
Where will the development be?
The resort will be located at Lago Mar in Texas City. Lago Mar is a 12-acre, 24-million-gallon turquoise lagoon. Here visitors can enjoy private cabanas, aquatic activities ranging from jet skis to electric jet boards, as well as a bars and eateries.
“This location in Texas City is an exciting venture for us,” said Christopher Schroeder, CEO of Sports Hospitality Ventures, LLC. “Texas sports, especially Houston sports, are integral to this state, and we are pleased to bring this resort to such a dedicated fan base.”
What’s the timeline?
Developers plan to host a groundbreaking ceremony in the third quarter of 2024. After which, construction will begin promptly. No official opening date has been announced.
