1. Screen on the Green
Discovery Green’s hit cinema series is back for another season. Here, film-goers can plop down on the lawn – or bring a lawn chair if so inclined – and sit in on free screenings of family-oriented movies in the park. Be sure to at least pack a blanket and some snacks for good measure.
Food and drinks, including beer and wine, are available for purchase at the The Lake House. The next event is slated for June 22 at 7 pm with a screening of the musical Mean Girls remake.

2. TMC Helix Park
The newly inaugurated park at the Texas Medical Center is a 37-acre green space woven into the double-helix structure of DNA. Connecting green spaces, culinary vendors, and artistic avenues, the park is also the basis for a variety of exciting events.
This summer, the park is hosting Movie Night in Helix Hall. On June 20, there will be a screening of Luca for families to watch in the park. Popcorn, candy, snacks, and drinks will be available on-site for purchase.

3. Rooftop Cinema Club
Houston’s first rooftop cinema experience has an action-packed summer program ready for the city. This summer, the Houston rooftop movie-theater – and social cinema experience – will feature a wide range of major motion pictures.
Screenings include everything from cult-classics like Rocky Horror Picture Show, comedies like Friday, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, family films like Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, action thrillers like Bad Boys: Ride or Die and Independence Day, and much more!

4. Moon Tower Inn
The patio brewpub and hotdog hotspot in Second Ward has announced June Movie Nights on Tuesdays this summer. Here, patrons can enjoy a delicious assortment of craft beer and grub while catching screenings of Young Guns, Sukiyaki Western Django, Totally Killer, Burn, Raising Arizona, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, and Babylon.

5. Showboat Drive-In
Cruise back in to ’50s this season at Showboat Drive-In. The open-air, two-screen cinema provides a throwback movie-going experience where filmgoers can enjoy movies ranging from the latest in family-friendly flicks, blockbusters, horror, and more – all from the comfort of their cars. Among POST’s exciting array of events slated for this summer – not excluding the Solar Dust exhibition – is a rooftop cinema experience in Houston. Located on its five-acre rooftop park and garden, the market is hosting Movie Night on the Lawn on Fridays this summer.
Upcoming screenings include The Neverending Story on Friday, June 7. The event is free with RSVP. Lawn chairs are not permitted, but blankets are okay. Drinks and a wonderful array of eateries are located in the Food Hall downstairs.

7. Market Square Park
Located in the middle of Houston’s Downtown District, surrounded by the likes of La Carafe, NotsuoH, and Hearsay, is Market Square Park. This summer the downtown district are hosting a number of movies in the park for Movies Under the Stars. Upcoming screenings include: 10 Things I Hate About You on Thursday, June 13 at 8 pm.

Axelrad is more than just a bar; it’s a conceptual experience. Housed in a century-old building, it reflects the creative visions of various artists, from the handcrafted tap handles to the eclectic seating and textiles. Outside, the Neon Garden features a sprawling patio with hammock nooks and communal tables.
This summer, Axelrad is hosting a number of movie screenings on Mondays in the Neon Garden. Upcoming screenings include Hedwick and the Angry Inch on June 10.
