Is watching the same shows over and over on the couch getting a bit monotonous? Mix things up for date night at Showboat Drive In, an old-school, drive-in theater located just outside of Houston.
Located on the grounds formerly occupied by a horse pasture, Showboat Drive In is a testament to the past. Owner, Chris Rumfolo, named the drive-in theater after her grandfather’s, a drive in restaurant operational during the ’50s in Houston.
The lobby at Showboat is ’50s themed, adorned with classic movie posters and housing two vintage movie projectors.

The open-air, two-screen cinema screens a variety of movies, from family-friendly pictures to horror and the latest blockbusters. At the time of this article’s publication, Showboat is screening Night Swim, Wonka, and Mean Girls (2024).
As far as the concessions go, the theater has a snack bar stocked with traditional theater goodies. It’s also got a full kitchen should nostalgic cravings kick in and you want a burger or a hotdog.
The theater does not permit idling in vehicles. Should visitors need a charge, they can restart their car for a few minutes. Visitors are also permitted to bring their own chairs or couches should they desire. Tune into 98.9 FM or 98.1 FM to hear the show!
