This past weekend, Netherlands flooded Houston in an epic sea of orange – and subsequently broke the internet with viral images of some 25,000 fans in the wake of the double-decker Dutch bus, dancing, playing music, and reveling the famous World Cup atmosphere in Houston.
Today, two clubs will be (literally) walking in Netherlands’ footsteps, as Portugal and Uzbekistan have both confirmed fan walks in Houston on Tuesday, June 23. While it’s unlikely that either will bring the same crowds as this past weekend, it’s likely to draw thousands.

Portugal Fan Walk Houston
Portugal fans begins at 9 am in the Texas Medical Center-area Smith Lands South Parking lot. Fans will likely show up in the hour or so before taking off to NRG Stadium.
Uzbekistan Fan Walk Houston
Uzbekistan fans will begin lining up at Helix Park at 7 am this Tuesday. Soon thereafter, officials will hand out free servings of Plov, a hearty one-pot meat, rice, and vegetable meal and the country’s national dish. The Fan Walk itself will begin at 9 am.
Street Closures
Houston officials state that the following streets will be affected by the World Cup Fan Walks in Houston today:
- Cambridge (from Old Spanish Trail to Holly Hall)
- Fannin (from Old Spanish Trail to Holly Hall)
- Greenbriar (from Old Spanish Trail to Fannin)
- Holly Hall (from Cambridge to Fannin)
Portugal vs. Uzbekistan Match-Up
Portugal and Uzbekistan face-off at noon at NRG Stadium in Houston. In Group K, Portugal stands in second place after a draw with DR Congo. Uzbekistan, competing in the country’s first-ever World Cup showing, is presently in last place after losing to Colombia 3 – 1.
Outside the stadium, Houston fans can catch the game at one of many fan festivals throughout the city – notably the FIFA Fan Festival in East Downtown.
