Houston might be considered a concrete jungle, but with the many tiki, tropical, and Tulum-inspired bars in Houston, you could make the argument that the city is in fact a jungle jungle. Most recently, Houstonians can get tropical at Palapas, a brand new three-story bar and destination lounge now open in Midtown.
Now open at 1916 Baldwin Street in Midtown, Palapas is a paradisiacal new oasis, patio, and Cabo-like escape in Houston. Comprised of three different, uniquely-themed floors, Palapas pops with bright neon lights, lush fixtures, and vibrant tropical installations including a breathtaking Day of the Dead floral feature on the second floor.
“The magic of Palapas lies in its careful design and structure. Each floor is a distinct and well-crafted experience, transporting patrons to various corners of the world,” the website reads.
“From the top, the third floor offers an awe-inspiring view of the surrounding area, providing a serene, open-air ambiance reminiscent of an exclusive tropical resort. Complete with Instagram-worthy scenes and photo opportunities, it’s the perfect spot to unwind and soak in the city skyline, margarita in hand.”
Furthermore, Palapas features an expansive outdoor patio designed to emulate a Cabo beachside, complete with white sand, lounge seating and tables, a tiki monument, water installation, and cross bridge, as well as actual palapas.
Of course, the experience of Palapas wouldn’t be complete without a sweet, colorful cocktail in hand. Where libations are concerned, Palapas features – in addition to champagne, beer, wine, and spirits – a variety of island-style cocktails with such options as Cabo Wabo, Spiked Jarritos, and the ultra-shareable Palapas Punch – choice of Patrón Reposado- Casamigos Reposado or Don Julio Reposado, passion fruit syrup, grenadine, lime juice, tiki bitters, lemon lime soda, and fruit garnish.
Palapas also houses an on-site kitchen, which offers appetizers, tacos, burgers, empanadas, wings, tostaditos, and churros.
