April Fool’s Day is around the corner, Houston, but it’s no joke that the same week beloved Montrose gastropub, Rudyard’s, will host The Riot Comedy Festival at the bar’s local comedy attic. Running from April 4th to April 7th this week in Houston, The Riot Comedy Festival will feature veteran comics, hot up-and-comers, podcasts tapings, and a four-day block party.
Housed inside Rudyard’s upstairs bar, The Riot is one of Houston’s top comedy clubs. The Riot hosts stand-up shows nightly with a program of open-mics, comedy showcases, themed shows, roasts, and more. This April, the comedy club is set to host the second annual Riot Comedy Festival.
Tickets are now on sale to the comedy festival, set to feature over 40 shows across 3 stages from April 4th to April 7th. Here, the club is set to stage performances from veteran comedians like Robert Kelly (Louis, The Degenerates, The Regz, JRE), headliners Rocky Dale Davis (NBC, Comedy Central, MTV), Paris Sashay (Comedy Central), Jourdain Fischer (The Tonight Show), and Tom Thakkar (The Tonight Show) as well as killer up-and-comers like Kim Congdon (Kill Tony, JRE, Impractical Jokers), and Casey Rocket (Kill Tony, Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast).
The festival will also feature live tapings of hit comedy podcasts including This Bitch with Kim Congdon and Sara Weinshenk (JRE) and Stuff Island with frenemies Tommy Pope (Gilly and Keaves, Are You Garbage, Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast) and Chris O’Connor (Gilly & Keeves, Are You Garbage, Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast).
Astute comedy fans can also put their judgmental caps on for the festival’s National Comedy Contest.
Each year the festival puts on a The Block party, a four-day fiesta along the stretch of Waugh Drive that features award-winning food, games, street performers, vendors, cold drinks and cocktails, as well as a monolithic 30-foot inflatable, mic-wielding, Texas-flag-carrying astronaut. The party is free to attend for ticket holders.
