Beat the heat this summer at one of the coolest places in town, literally. The Galleria Houston has debuted their newly renovated $1 million ice rink and is now officially open for public sessions.
In the heart of Uptown, Houston, The Galleria is a 2.5-million-square-foot, mixed-use retail outlet home to over 375 stores – from Louis Vuitton and Gucci to Nordstrom and Macy’s – 50 dining options, children’s play space, beauty salons, tailors, and a state-of-the-art ice rink.
As of this past May, the ice rink at The Galleria has been closed to the public for extensive, $1 million renovations. The key focus of the renovations was the floor beneath the ice, which over time had developed a permafrost over the years, lifting the surface of the ice in places.
The Galleria have also invested in aesthetic renovations; those entail a replacement of the wood sideboards with steel, and installing new floor matting surrounding the rink.
This past August, The Galleria finally reopened its ice rink for Learn to Skate and public sessions.
The new-and-improved ice rink at The Galleria was originally supposed to reopen on July 14 but was forced to delay the reopening due to an issue with the ‘chiller system’ as reported by Houston Chronicle.
Now operational, the rink will continue to be open year round. Their times are listed as such: 11 am – 8:15 pm Mondays and Tuesdays; 11 am – 6 pm Wednesdays; 11 am – 5:15 pm Thursdays; 11 am – 9 pm Fridays; 11:15 am – 9 pm Saturdays; 12:15 pm – 7 pm on Sundays.
General admission tickets are priced at $15.50 with a separate skate rental charge of $5.25. Tickets for children aged 5 and under cost $13; military personnel cost $18, including skate rentals.
