I’ll drink to that!
People deal with times of distress in different ways. For the Lonestar State, it’s cracking open a few cold ones. New geotagged Twitter data shows that the second biggest state ranks the first in drinking alcohol during the COVID-19 outbreak. [Featured image: @beerchroniclehou]
While the state elates to see heartwarming stories of distilleries, breweries, and other companies shift their manufacturing practices to produce essentials such as hand sanitizer, Texans haven’t stopped loading up on the companies’ regular (drinkable) products.
A barbecue website and cooking guide, Seriously Smoked, recently analyzed a compilation of over 200,000 tweets submitted across the USA over the last 30 days.
The site searched for keywords, hashtags, and phrases related to drinking alcohol.
After proper investigation, their report shows that amidst the outbreak, Texas is tweeting the most about drinking booze.
Fact 1: Right now in Texas, you can have alcohol delivered with food.
Fact 2: 1 liter delivered drink = 5 mugs of moscow mule.
Fact 3: Bathtubs are best for day drinking.
Fact 4: I’m day drunk and mouthy.

The top 10:
- Texas
- California
- New Mexico
- Hawaii
- Arizona
- Nevada
- Louisiana
- Mississippi
- Idaho
- Georgia
Surely the temporary waiver allowing bars and restaurants to deliver alcohol was a game-changer. That said, Texas did rank number one last month on their list for National Margarita Day.
Cheers, y’all!
