This year saw the opening of a variety of incredible venues in Houston. From Flamenco-dancing tapas bars to immersive digital art studio, tiny shot bars, and more. Sneaking in just before the year’s close is Sneaks, a coffee shop and lounge newly minted in Midtown.
Sneaks is a project from Pouya Alavi, Eddie Massa, and Ash Tadghighi – the team behind PDA cocktail and caviar lounge and 40 All pickleball sports bar, both in Midtown. The opening of Sneaks, the trio hopes, would create a miniature destination district where patrons can hop amongst day, evening, and/or night. The group also plans to open Rendezvous rooftop over PDA at a later date.
For Sneaks, the group wanted to blend their prowess for coffee and cocktails with their passion for music and sneakers. The latter, was in large part due to Tadghighi, an attorney with a staggering sneaker collection.
The venue is adorned with sneakers, in the form of encased shoes, murals, and other themed installations. Inside Sneaks is a display/bookcase, behind which is the venue’s special “Sneakeasy” lounge where patrons can enjoy a selection of cocktails.
“We know coffee; we run two successful bars. Let’s combine the two together into one location: sneakerhead, ‘90s, hip hop, R&B — a lot of spots are opening with nostalgic music,” said Alavi, owner of Native Coffee in Montrose, to CultureMap. “Let’s make it a cool place for people to come hang out, have some coffee, get some light bites.”
In addition to a selection of coffeeshop staples, as well as rotating seasonals, Sneaks will also feature a short menu of themed bagel sandwiches.
Sneaks celebrates its grand opening with a special New Year’s Eve party with live DJs, party favors, and photo-ops. The venue is open at 3030 Travis St. Houston, TX.
