Reliant Stadium return! Over the past 12 years, the Houston Texans and Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, have called NRG Stadium their home. This August, NRG Stadium and surrounding facilities will revert back to its original Reliant banner.
This past Wednesday, Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation officially approved changing NRG Stadium,NRG Park, and affiliated facilities back to the Reliant banner. The decision follows a recent resident survey, wherein “90% of Houston-area customers” supported the name change.

“Fans have told us what this place means to them. For many, it’s always been Reliant Stadium. We heard them loud and clear. Reliant Stadium is back”, said Brad Bentley, head of NRG Consumer and Reliant in a press release.
Officials are presently in the process of removing all NRG signage. This is in large part due to the FIFA World Cup 2026 games, wherein the stadium will temporarily feature the name: “Houston Stadium”. The Reliant name will return effective August 2026. The timing coincides with the Houston Texans 25th anniversary season.
“As a founding partner of the team, Reliant has been a part of our Houston Texans family from the very beginning,” said Mike Tomon, Houston Texans President in a press release.

“Reliant Stadium has been our home since our first game in 2002 and we can’t wait to celebrate 25 seasons of Texans football back where it all began. We are so proud of our longstanding partnership that also extends beyond the field through numerous initiatives, including our Scholarships for Champions Program, which has recognized and awarded scholarships to deserving student-athletes across the greater Houston area over the last two decades.”
Reliant Stadium was the original name of the Houston Texans’ home when their inaugural season launched in 2002. In 2014, the stadium changed its name when NRG acquired Reliant Energy’s retail business.
