Few have done more for city than Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale. It’s also true that few have more riding on the Astros winning the World Series than the Gallery Furniture owner.
This World Series, the Astros superfan has shown us all how much he believes in the team, placing an historic $10 million bet on the Astros to win.
Yesterday, a video went viral of his passion hitting a peak; Mack shown in an altercation with a Phillies fan at Citizens Bank Park on Game 3 of the World Series. Decked out in Astros gear, Mack can be seen dropping a number of enthusiastic f-bombs directed at the Philly fan.
In interviews following the incident, Mack revealed that he’d been defending Astros’ player Jose Altuve.
In the wake of the viral video, Houstonians have shown nothing but continued love for Mack. Comments on video like “Y’all don’t mess with Houston’s sweetheart!”, “We stand with you Mack”, and “Omw to buy a mattress” have revealed nothing but overwhelming support for Mack from Houstonians.
Some local entities have taken a step further to own the “Mack Attack” incident in support of McIngvale.
Angel Share HTX, a gorgeous downtown bar that which donates a portion of its monthly proceeds to a rotating selection of four Houston-based non-profits, have created their own Mack Attack cocktail.
As seen in the video, the cocktail feature Mack’s likeness, donning an Astros jersey as well as a few chains and bandanas.
Additionally, H-Town Frankie Christmas light extraordinaire also made an homage to Mack with his very own light show.
Since as far as we can remember the hometown hero has stood alongside the city, in times good and bad – particularly when its come to baseball. And its about time the city has the chance to stand with him.
Being a perpetual good guy, Mack would late invite Eagles fans to his suite in Thursday’s Texans game. Bless his heart.
