Located in the former OKRA Charity Saloon residence, Angel Share HTX is a gorgeous new downtown bar that carries the charitable torch of its predecessor.
You know what they say, it feels good to do good. Well at Angel Share HTX, it feels very good – particularly at Happy Hour. Opened late 2021, Angel Share HTX is a woman-owned bar that which donates a portion of its monthly proceeds to a rotating selection of four Houston-based non-profits.
How it works is that for every drink purchased, the patron will receive a ticket which they can then use to vote for one of four charities. At the end of the month, the bar will donate all proceeds from its special charity menu to the non-profit with the most votes.
“All of the charities benefit from increased awareness about their efforts (perhaps you haven’t heard of them before),” the bar writes on its website. “And for some, financial support – simply by YOU having a drink at a bar.
At the moment of writing this article, the four running non-profits include: San Jose Clinic, Mikey’s Place, Children’s Oasis Foundation, and Ronald McDonald House Houston.
Behind the bar, Angel Share HTX specializes in classic cocktails – patrons are encouraged to ask the bartender about featured specials – and local beer. Additionally, the bar serves red, white, sparkling, and rosé wine by the glass, zero-proof mocktails, as well as a vast selection of whisky, rum, and agave.
Happy Hour is available all day on Mondays and from 4 pm to 6:3o pm throughout the week.
As for the food, the bar has a menu with options such as cheese & charcuterie, tempura okra, house-made beef jerky, quesadillas, wraps, fries, and more.
Owned by Mary Ellen Angel, the bar itself is part shrine to saint Dolly Parton while it regularly celebrates other female legends.
Angel Share HTX is located at 924 Congress St. It’s open daily from 4 pm to midnight Sunday through Wednesday, and from 4 pm to 2 am Thursday through Saturday – the kitchen closes at midnight.
