Ready or not, summer is on the way. While the rising temperatures might be a little daunting – especially for all you newcomers – rest assured, that the city has plenty in store to keep you cool this summer in Houston. Included is Discovery Green, wherein organizers of Downtown’s premier urban green space are launching a brand new LED-lit kayak experience as well as motorized bumper boats on Kinder Lake.
Discovery Green is an urban green space located in the heart of Houston. Set at the foot of the skyline, the organization regularly hosts some of the hottest events in town. From their seasonal roller and ice rinks, to art exhibitions, Flea by Night, Screen on the Green, and more: DG is a hub of city culture and Houston happenings.
This weekend, Discovery Green is launching two new experiences sure to make a splash in the city. For the first time ever, Houstonians will be able to cruise Kinder Lake on clear, LED-lit kayaks. Much like the Glow Kayaking in San Marcos, the LED kayaks at Discovery Green’s Kinder Lake offer clear, glowing vessels by which to take the water.
Furthermore, Discovery Green is also set to embark a fleet of motorized bumper boats on Kinder Lake. Here, visitors can spin, twirl, and bump boats among friends on the lake. No prior experience necessary.
Both experiences will be available beginning this Friday, May 23, through Saturday, July 26, from 10 am to 10 pm daily. Tickets are priced at $12 for either motorized boat or LED-lit kayak. Bundle prices of $20 for both experiences are also available.
Discovery Green is located at 1500 McKinney Street in Downtown, Houston. Other events set to take place at the park this season include Park After Dark running from June 5 to June 26, Juneteenth Celebration on June 14th, and Rainbow on the Green on June 27.
