If Houston feels a bit more crowded lately, that’s because it is. Penske Truck Rental released its 16th annual “Top Moving Destinations” list, revealing Houston as the most moved to city in the United States for the fifth year in a row.
The annual report sources data from an internal analysis of one-way consumer truck rental reservations across over 1,880 rental locations through 2025. For the fifth year in a row, Houston was the top destinations for movers. Other Texas cities featuring in the top 10 include San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas.

Furthermore, the company gleans insights its annual”Settling In: A Consumer Moving Trends Survey”. The survey discerns the motivating factors behind moving across generations, citing top reasons of lower cost of living, opportunities for fresh starts, weather, and proximity to family.
“The consistency of these rankings year after year suggests that movers have identified cities delivering what they actually want: affordability, community, cultural vibrancy, and opportunity for fresh starts,” said Kevin Malloy, senior vice president of rental at Penske, in a press release.
“Today’s movers are prioritizing cities that reflect their values and lifestyle they seek, rather than career-motivated decisions”.

The reveals that 45% of Gen Z have moved within the last five years, largely prioritizing personal values and entertainment access. In contrast, 40% of Boomers focus on family proximity. Notably, social media now influences 56% of moving decisions, with destination appeal is increasingly defined by digital lifestyle branding and cultural influence.
