Whether it’s the city’s rich culture, incredible cuisine, lively bar scene, or otherwise: Houston has become a destination city to which the masses are flocking. According to a new survey by Penske Truck Rental, Houston was the top destination for movers this past year.
Penske Transportation Solutions is headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania. It operates across various sectors including truck leasing, logistics, retail automotive, and professional motorsports.
The company recently published a report ranking the most popular moving destinations in the US based on one-way truck rentals. In the report, the 15th annual “Top Moving Destination 2024 List”, Houston was ranked as the top destination for movers in the US this past year.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that Houston was the top moving destination through Penske’s survey. The top 10 list also featured other Texas cities including San Antonio, Dallas, and Austin.
Below is a breakdown of the top 10 moving destinations in the US in 2024:
1. Houston, Texas
2. Atlanta, Georgia
3. San Antonio, Texas
4. Dallas, Texas
5. Orlando, Florida
6. Charlotte, North Carolina
7. Las Vegas, Nevada
8. Chicago, Illinois
9. Austin, Texas
10. Tampa, Florida
In coordination with the release of its moving report, Penske also unveiled its “Settling In: A Consumer Moving Trends Survey” highlighting key reasons why people are moving.
The survey revealed that key reasons for moving included better job opportunities, proximity to loved ones, cost of living, and increased space. As for the decision to move, two-thirds of the survey respondents said the move had a positive impact on their well-being.
The Penske report echoes data from the U.S. Census Bureau, which unveiled Harris County was, between 2022 and 2023, the largest growing county in the US, and in 2024, that Harris County has become the third most populated county in the United States.
