Shortly after ranking Houston as one of the most “sinful” cities in the United States, Wallethub has named Houston as one of the most fun cities in the country – coincidence? The company’s most recent rankings sought the funnest cities across the U.S., hailing Houston as the most fun city in Texas, and 6th most in the entire country.
Personal finance platform Wallethub recently published a list of the most fun cities in the United States. To this aim, the company sought cities that offer “a little bit of everything for everyone” – discerning the need for variety and that fun means different things for different people.

To conduct its rankings, the company used data sourced from U.S. Census Bureau, TripAdvisor, Council for Community and Economic, and Yelp among other sources to analyze over 180 American cities via 65 key metrics across three dimensions:
- Entertainment & Recreation: quantity of attractions, diversity of restaurants, public beaches, parks, movie theaters, ideal weather, etc.
- Nightlife & Parties: bar accessibility, dance clubs, comedy clubs, music festivals, pool halls, etcs.
- Costs: average beer, wine, party, and food prices, movie costs, bowling costs, quantity of affordable restaurants, cost of living, etc.
Following an analysis of cities through these metrics, the company assessed a corresponding weight each of which it graded on a 100-point scale – 100 being the highest. The company then averaged the cities based on these metrics, to which they assigned a final overall score.

According to Wallethub, Houston is the 6th most fun city in the entire country – and the most fun city in the state of Texas. The top five most fun cities in the U.S. according to the company are as follows:
- Las Vegas, NV
- Orlando, FL
- Miami, FL
- Atlanta, GA
- New Orleans, LA
Where Texas is concerned, the company ranked Austin as the 8th most fun city; followed by San Antonio at No. 23, Dallas at No. 26 (Ha!), Fort Worth at No. 60, Arlington at No. 71, Plano at No. 78, and Corpus Christi at No. 94.
