WalletHub recently conducted a study ranking the most “sinful” cities in America – factoring in seven dimensions ranging from lust to jealously. The study, comparing over 180 cities across the country, found that Houston is the second most sinful city in the country.
WalletHub is a personal finance company and management service. Recently, the company conducted a nationwide ranking 182 cities among the 150 most populated in the U.S. to determine the country’s most sinful cities. The study factored in a total of 37 relevant metrics across seven key dimensions:
- Anger & Hatred – violent incidents, crimes, etc.
- Jealousy – theft, fraud
- Excesses & Vices – obesity, drinking, coffee, drug use
- Greed – casinos and gambling, charitable donations as share of income
- Lust – adult entertainment establishments, Tinder Google searches, searches for adult entertainment
- Vanity – Google searches for plastic surgery, tanning salons per capita
- Laziness – average working hours, lack of exercise, average time watching TV, volunteer rate

With these key indicators, WalletHub assigned a numerical grade with 100 being the highest/most sinful to determine its score or “WalletHub Vice Index”.
Second only to Las Vegas AKA “Sin City” itself, Houston ranked as the second most sinful city in the country. The city’s highest, or more sinful scores, were related to Lust, Jealousy, and Vanity. The article cites Houston’s high number of adult entertainment establishments – third highest in the country, baby! – as well as Google search interest for the above as well as affairs.
The study also cited crime, as well as vices like gambling and Google search interest in plastic surgery for Houston’s high sinful score.

The 10 most sinful cities in the United States, according to WalletHub, are as follows:
- Las Vegas, Nevada
- Houston, Texas
- Los Angeles, California
