
Summer in Houston is not what you would call a breeze. It’s hot, it’s humid, and it’s not always assured that our A/C units will be able to withstand the perpetual heat waves. This makes it all the more exciting when we hear about aquatic-based developments in the city. One of the most anticipated of which is the HTX Surf Club – a coming resort destination that brings surfing, beaches, and action sports to Lake Houston.
What is HTX Surf Club?
HTX Surf Club is a 5.5-are surf and action sports destination in development at the Generation Park master-planned community. First announced back in 2022, the club features simulated waves tailored to individual surfers using Wavegarden Cove Technology. Outside of the waves, the club will also feature beachy amenities that include the a resort-style pool, leisure pool beach, Surfside Restaurant & Bar, training and wellness facilities, and an event lawn.
The development will also offer the opportunity for dryland surfing with its skateboard pump track.
How are the waves at HTX Surf Club?
The Beach Street Development incorporates Wavegarden Cove technology to create from 400 – 700 waves an hour with 20 different type of wave types – from point breaks to split peaks and single peaks. Developers promise world-class waves for all skill types that are customizable up to seven feet high.

HTX Surf Club will be a fixture at the Generation Park development in northeast Houston.
Will the HTX Surf Club be Public?
When in operation, the HTX Surf Club will offer various membership opportunities as well as public access with available hourly sessions, day passes, and beach access.
What is Generation Park?
Described as a “15-minute city”, Generation Park is also presently in development. Upon completion, Generation Park will span 4,300 acres near Beltway8 and West Lake Houston Parkway in northeast Houston.
Since its inception in 2012, Houston-based McCord Development has invested over $1.5 billion in the infrastructure, road and trail system, commercial enterprises, micromobility enterprises, and underground utilities of the community.
Located 10 minutes from IAH Airport and 20 minutes from Downtown Houston, planned features of Generation Park include around 700 acres of commercial space, over 650 acres of parks and open space, and the 52-acre Redemption Square mixed-use hub.
Key fixtures at Generation Park include the HTX Surf Club, San Jacinto College Center for Biotechnology, BioHub Two campus, 1.4-million-square-foot Target distribution center, and the 4-mile pedestrian and cyclist “superhighway” dubbed “The Ray.
The development process will likely take place over the next 10 years.
When will HTX Surf Club open in Houston?
While initially planned to open in 2024, HTX Surf has pushed its opening. While some reports suggested a 2025 opening, the HTX Surf Club published on its Instagram account early this June that it will open in 2027.
