1. Neon Boots Dance Hall and Saloon
Housed in the historic space formerly occupied by Esquire Ballroom, Neon Boots Dance Hall and Saloon is an award-winning – and the city’s largest – country and western bar in Houston. The Northwest venue is a hotspot for country dancing, live music, and karaoke.
If the venue’s Jim Beam specials aren’t enough to get you on the dance floor, never fear, the venue offers dance classes – from line dancing to Texas two-step, west coast swing, and more – every Tuesday with professional dance instructors leading the way. 2. Shady Acres Saloon

Shady Acres Saloon is a Luckenbach-inspired honky tonk and haven for country music lovers. Nestled “in the backyard of Houston” across a pecan tree-shaded half-acre patio, the divey little saloon regularly stages live music from local bands and artists.
From the bar, patrons can choose from a long list of domestic, local, and craft beers, as well as hard ciders and seltzers. The patio is dog-friendly, the service is friendly-friendly.

3. Cowboix Hevven

Tucked away inside Meow Wolf Houston Radio Tave, Cowboix Hevven is a psychedelic honky tonk and speakeasy that’s, if anything, a real trip. Inside the weird (and wonderful) little watering hole, you’ll find a pool table, eccentric bar flies, and a jukebox – though the latter is more of a chatterbox.
The bar proudly serves hooch – whiskey, domestic beer, and other divey alcoholic drinks – and hot slop with options for variations of Frito pie, hot dogs, and bologna sandwiches.
Throughout Rodeo season, Meow Wolf is hosting themed events in keeping with the festivities including Adulti-Verse: These Boots Were Made for Tavin on March 6 and Adulti-Verse: Ride the Bull, Ride the Multiverse on March 20 with DJs spinning country-disco anthems as, for the latter, a mechanical bull in the open venue space.

4. Lone Star Saloon
Lone Star Saloon is a laidback hole-in-the-wall in Downtown, Houston. For over 50 years, the no-frills dive has been serving cold beers, warm smiles, and good times. The venue also features a pool table, jukebox, and TVs tuned into sports.

5. Whiskey River North

Located in the Willowbrook area of Northwest Houston, the country-spun nightclub is a high-energy hoedown until 2 am Thursday through Sunday.
While country music is the main soundtrack, Whiskey River North DJs are prone to mix things up with pop, Tejano, and hip-hop. The space features ample dance floor, taco stand, as well as a mechanical bull for daring cowboys and cowgirls.

6. Continental Club

Sister to the legendary live music haunt in Austin, Continental Club is a Midtown dive located in the company of Shoeshine Charlies and Double Trouble Caffeine & Cocktails. The club is a regular for local and touring bands, ranging from swing to funk, country, disco, and more. Friendly staff, reasonably priced drinks.

7. Stetson’s Nightlife
Stetson’s Nightlife is a lively country dancehall and saloon in Humble. The venue regularly stages like music and on Thursday nights, Stetson’s offers free dance lessons starting at 7:30 in which guests 18 and up are allowed to partake. Military, veteran, and first responders can enjoy free entry on regular nights.

8. Johnny B’s Outlaw Saloon
Live country music, mechanical bull, dance floor, and a pool table – Johnny B’s Outlaw Saloon in Northeast Houston checks all the boxes for our Houston honky tonks list. Free darts on Mondays, free pool on Wednesdays, and karaoke on Tuesdays and Sundays.

9. Westwind Club
It’s two-steppin’ and long neckin’ at Westwind Club, a stalwart country ballroom in Northwest Houston. After over 30 years, the venue is still operated by its original owners. Westwind Club boasts the best drink prices in the city as well as “the smoothest dance floor this side of the Rockies”.
In addition to live bands, Westwind Club features a regular rotation of Dj spinning country, oldies, and rock hits. The club also houses a separate room of pool and darts. Covered patio bar on the grounds.

10. Stampede Houston

Stampede Houston is a massive and energetic, 18+ dance hall and nightclub. The venue is equipped with a massive dance floor as well as big screens for sports, pool tables, shuffleboard, a punching bag, and a mechanical bull. Stampede Houston also regularly hosts free poker tournaments as well as free dance lessons on select nights.
