A new honky tonk is scootin’ in to Houston. Get ready to two-step the night away, Houston, as iconic Dallas-based Cowboys Red River opens its massive new dance hall and saloon in PlazAmericas in Southwest Houston with live music, free dance lessons, and a mechanical bull.
Originated in North Texas, Cowboys Red River is an iconic dance hall and saloon that’s been a staple in Dallas since the ’80s. Over the years, the venue has been a destination for major country artists, including the likes of Toby Keith, Garth Brooks, and Brooks & Dunn. In 1996, Cowboys Red River opened a successful location in San Antonio.
As of February 12, the company plans opens its third location at Plazamericas at 201 Sharpstown Center in Southwest Houston. The 37,000-square-foot space features a 2,500-square-foot dance floor designed in an oval “race track” style. Hosting up to 2,000 cowboys and cowgirls a night, Cowboys Red River in Houston has pool tables, a mechanical bull, and 1,700 parking spots.

The venue offers free valet parking for “unescorted ladies”.
Cowboys Red Red River will regularly stage a house band, Runnin’ Behind, with plans to feature national touring acts throughout the year.
“We’re fired up to bring Cowboys Red River to Houston,” vice president and COO Scott Murphy said in a statement.
“For over 30 years, we’ve been the biggest, baddest honky-tonk in Texas — the kind of place where you can hold someone close on the dance floor or raise a little hell with your buddies and feel right at home either way. Now it’s Houston’s turn. With our race-track dance floor, top-tier live acts, and that Southern hospitality we’re known for, we’re bringing a whole lot of romance, energy, and Texas-sized fun to this city. Houston, grab your boots, a couple of friends, and let’s go have a damn good time.”

Cowboys Red River will host its grand opening on Thursday, February 12. As part of its grand opening celebration, the venue will host a special performance by Texas country band, Midland. Doors open at 7:30 pm; show starts at 10 pm. Once in operation, the 18+ venue will be open from 7 pm – 3 am Wednesday through Saturday.
