Beloved Houston green space, Hermann Park, is now even better this spring. Two years after breaking ground on their, well, groundbreaking renovations in April 2022, park officials have unveiled the park’s new centerpiece: The Commons.
Located in the center of Houston, Hermann Park spans 450 acres, offering an expansive urban oasis. Within its boundaries lie beloved attractions such as the Houston Zoo, Miller Outdoor Theatre, Houston Museum of Natural Science, and McGovern Centennial Gardens, collectively cementing Hermann Park as a cherished gem within the local community.
After undergoing extensive renovations throughout the park, park officials have unveiled its latest attraction: The Commons. The new area, located on the corner of Cambridge and Fannin Streets in the southwest area of the park, features 26 acres of play zones, gardens, natural spaces, and a community gathering area.
A central playground designed for kids will be the new centerpiece of The Commons. Here, visitors can enjoy the Swing Hill throwback playground experience, a summer-ready, aquatic Splash Zone, a zoo-inspired playground experience, as well as a Space Adventure area complete with a towering, 45-foot rocket.
The Commons also features a new community gathering space complete with added food stations, a food truck park, as well as new picnic areas and a renovated Fannin Pavilion.
Lastly, but not leastly, The Commons features a wonderful variety of new natural areas. Added natural spaces include the Wetland Garden and Stone Cove where visitors can have a better opportunity to connect with nature.
“The Commons is almost here, and we look forward to sharing the stunning Welcome Garden with you all!” The group wrote in an Instagram post. “Located at the corner of Fannin and Cambridge Streets, this area serves as a beautiful entry point to Park visitors from the Medical Center, Rice University and other surrounding areas.”
The Commons is now officially open at Hermann Park.
