While we’re head over heels for autumn, it’s hard to say we’re more excited than Discovery Green. With their fall program already under way, the organization still has plenty of more tricks in the bag for the season.
This Saturday, October 8, Discovery Green is debuting a new art installation on its grounds entitled Mi Casa, Your Casa 2.0 by Mexican designers, Esrawe + Cadena, with an evening filled with artistic festivities.
Mi Casa, Your Casa 2.0 is an interactive installation on the Sarofim Lawn featuring 16 house-like structures wherein visitors can sit, swing, and enjoy the company of each other. Esrawe + Cadena, the designers of the popular Los Trompos, took inspiration from the street markets and mercados of Latin America.
Discovery Green is hosting a special opening for the exhibit scheduled from 6 to 10 pm on Saturday night. Performances include Lifted by Mimbre, an all-woman UK acrobatic team making its US debut, at 7 pm and later 9 pm.
Future events scheduled at Mi Casa, Your Casa 2.0 include President’s Mural – a live-action performance action painting by Ange Hillz to DJ Monstaa and DJ Pee Wee; Tell Your Story! on Saturdays this season where visitors can come and do exactly that; Houston Pride Quintet on Friday, October 14; Gamelon of the New Moon on Friday, October 21, and more!
Additionally, the installation will provide the stage for the daily ROCO On the Go:
“Enjoy a ‘Houston Strong’ playlist courtesy of ROCO while enjoying the Mi Casa, Your Casa art installation,” the website reads.
“The playlist features Houstonian composers and works inspired by Space City, in ROCO’s ‘Houston Strong’ playlist you’ll hear music inspired by fantasy, outer space, the journey of life to death, nature, light and darkness, and the voices of women. Composers represented include: Brad Sayles, Isabelle Ganz, Marcus Maroney, Karim Al-Zand, Paul English, Pierre Jalbert, Brad Sayles, Isabelle Ganz, and Anthony DiLorenzo. The playlist will be accessible through QR code onsite.”
