It’s sure hot right now, but this summer heat – and summer as a whole – will be over before we know it. In anticipation of cooler pastures, Discovery Green has announced its fall program including the return of Scream On The Green, Dia de los Muertos, and other seasonal favorites!
While it might not seem it right now, autumn is on the horizon. And for Houston, that means mildly cool temperatures. Every fall, Discovery Green, puts on a variety of exciting seasonal events to get Houstonians out and about. Recently, the organization announced its Fall 2022 Programming Lineup.
México en el Corazón
Kick off the autumn festivities on Friday, September 9, with the Mexico en el Corazón celebration. The cultural event will feature a traditional folklorico troupe of 50 performers as well as a live presentation of El Grito.
Scream on the Green
What’s Halloween without a little scream? On October 28, Discovery Green will reprise its free, family friendly Halloween celebration with a costume contest, screening of Monster House, and a live DJ.
Tejas Got Soul
This season, Discovery Green is hosting three free concerts celebrating Houston’s Chicano musicians. Discover your next favorite bands on September 25, October 23, and November 27 for La Fiebre, Los Monarcas de Pete y Mario Diaz, and AVIZO, respectively.
Dia de Los Muertos Celebration
On Sunday, October 30, Discovery Green will hold its fifth annual Día de los Muertos festival with proper pageantry, music, live performances, hands-on activities, vendors, and a screening of Coco. Here, visitors are encouraged to leave memories or “recuerdos” of their loved ones at the community altar.
Discovery Green also hosts a variety of active activities including hatha, yoga, and more. Additionally, the park plans to host fun and educational activities for children. For its full schedule, see its website here.
