In the few days of spring, we’re already gearing up for the warm weather activities of summer. If you’ve already started a summer 2022 bucket list, we have another addition for you. The Galveston Island State Park is reopening just in time for summer fun.
Recently, the Texas Park and Wildlife posted an update to the Galveston Island State Park:
“Check out this progress to the Beachside,” the twitter post reads. “We know you all are anticipating this as much as we are. The crews are working very hard to finish and get you your park back. Please continue to bear with us as we get closer and closer to opening.”
As for what to expect, the park has plans for 125 campsites – including water, electric, tent platform, and dry camping sites, kayak launch locations, boardwalks with rinse-off showers, as well as historical houses available for rent on the bayside.
Furthermore, the park is adding day use beach and bayside pavilions, a new vendor area, observation towers, as well as over five miles of additional hiking.
The park stated that although it doesn’t have an official opening date, it plans to open over the summer.
“A beautiful beach, wonderful fishing opportunities, amazing nature viewing and a birding destination all within our nearly 2000-acre park that stretches beach to bay across Galveston Island.”
