Speaking personally, the craving for cheesecake is a unique one. Not chocolate, nor ice cream, nor any other sugary confection can provide an adequate substitute when Jonesing for the specific taste of cheesecake. If in such a state, consider Nikko’s Cheesecakes, a Japanese dessert shop in Chinatown that’s home to the fluffiest cheesecakes in Houston.
Located at 9188 Bellaire Blvd #C in Chinatown, Nikko’s Cheesecakes is a mom-and-pop dessert shop. Open daily, Nikko’s is renowned for their pillowy Japanese cheesecakes (priced at $17.68, serves 6), which are lighter and fluffier than typical cheesecakes. From a visual standpoint, these desserts also differ from your typical diner cheesecake: looking like – what this writer describes as – giant, creamy, plush, and extra jiggly pancake cakes.
Nikko’s also serves a variety of other cheesecakes by the slice. Options include the New York Style Nikko’s House Cheesecake, American-style Nutella Cheesecake, as well as Strawberry, Caramel, and Limoncello Mascarpone Cheesecakes – all price at $5.46.
Here, customers can also order from a selection of special teas. House special-teas are the Dragon Fire Oolong tea (smoky oolong tea mix topped with cheesefoam) and the Pearilious (light white tea with essence of pear, topped with cheesefoam). Roasted Almond, Strawberry White, and Coconut Frenzy tea options are also available – each priced at $6.25 a piece.
Nikko’s Cheesecakes is now open at 9188 Bellaire Blvd #C in Bellaire. The store is open seven days a week; from 10:30 am – 8 pm Monday through Thursday; 11 am – 9 pm on Fridays; and from 11 am – 9 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early, for the mom and pop dessert shop can only make so many cheesecakes and can run out on particularly busy days.
