Discovery Green Is Opening An Outdoor Roller Rink At The Foot Of The Houston Skyline

Heels will roll.

Discovery Green in Downtown, Houston has announced the return of their outdoor rink this spring. From Friday, March 6, until April 6, Discovery Green is hosting public skates at the foot of Houston’s skyline.

Is rollerblading making a comeback? Oh wouldn’t that be magical. For a while it was just the Montrose roller disco legend, yours truly, and a couple other comrades cruising Buffalo Bayou Park. Now, with new indoor and outdoor opportunities to skate, it feels like more and more rollerbladers are coming out of the woodwork. Is 90’s culture finally ready for its second act?

I hope to see all my four-wheeled fellows at The Rink at Discovery Green. The skating season begins on Friday, March 6, during the French Cultures Festival. To help skaters embrace the joie de vivre, the rink is offering free skate rentals all night with the first 50 skaters getting to skate for free!

The rink will be hosting daily skates with a different theme for every night of the week. While this Friday you ought to expect some French tunes to go along with the festival, following Fridays will feature a live DJ along with a dazzling light show to set the perfect stage for you to get the night rolling.

Saturdays are for superheroes. Rollerbladers are encouraged to wear their capes, gowns, and other attire to fit their disguises, as they nonchalantly glide around the rink while indiscriminately staying at the ready to save the world from peril at any given moment.

Other special nights include Rainbow on the Rink. On March 20, the rink is throwing the ultimate LGBTQ dance party where skaters are invited to boogie until their wheels fall off.

The rink at Discovery Green is also the perfect outing for families, field trips, birthdays, company parties, and benevolent cult gatherings. For group plans, the rink does require advanced reservations. To do so, email: discovergreen@icerinkevents.com or call 713-434-RINK.

Monday is Cheap Skate Night — get it? Entry is $8 with free skate rentals. Otherwise, prices are $8 per person with $4 skate rental.

Wednesdays are reserved for the special skaters and wheelchair riders.
