Galveston can be an eerie place. Whether it’s weird alien creatures washing up ashore, Michael Myers sulking the beach, or just… the water. This past weekend, something else happened that had locals – and the rest of Houston – getting worked up in a frenzy. On Sunday, locals shared photos of a chained coffin on the Galveston beach, that which went viral.
One of the photos that made the rounds on Galveston-area Facebook pages was posted by Craig Corbell. Corbell, Haunted Mayfield Manor, Pirates! Legends of the Gulf Coast, and Baywatch Dolphin Tours CEO and owner, made clear shortly thereafter after that the coffin was an all-in-one marketing stunt promoting the businesses for Spring Break beachgoers.
Corbell later posted a video on his personal Facebook account with the caption: “Embark on a spine-chilling journey with Haunted Mayfield Manor and Baywatch Dolphin Tours as we navigate the Haunted Harbor Tours of Galveston starting this Friday!”
Text on the video read: “Who saw the [coffin[ and [skull] downtown this weekend?”
As for whether or not Galveston is haunted, there seem to be many that believe it’s so. Hendley Row, for example was a former lookout for Confederate soldiers back in the 1850s. Following the 1900 storm, the building was made into a morgue for those seeking potentially lost loved ones. Since then, apparitions have been reported.
Furthermore, The Hotel Galvez is also reported to be haunted. The hotel opened a decade after the big storm. One of the supernatural guests of the hotel is known as Audra, a former guest of the hotel room 501.
Oh yeah, there’s also a haunted Walmart in Galveston.
