Traditional American sports might dominate the zillion broadcasting TVs at any given sports bar in Houston, but at The Maple Leaf – it’s all about hockey. The Midtown pub goes bar down on all things Canada and hockey, from their 24/7 game coverage, to the Canadian beer selection, bubble hockey set-up, and actual penalty box, here is where Houston hockey fans can light the lamp.
Call us controversial, but few sporting events compare to the exhilaration of the NHL playoffs. Following a grueling 82-game regular season schedule, 16 teams must battle – and literally fight their way through –four best-of-seven rounds to win sport’s greatest trophy: Lord Stanley’s Cup. Here in Houston, there’s no place better to revel in the fastest game on earth than The Maple Leaf Pub.
Housed in an instantly recognizable red building on the corner Elgin St. and Smith St., The Maple Leaf Pub specializes in all things hockey, Canada, and nerdy. Its interior is fitted with countless team flags, framed jerseys, and memorabilia you’d only expect to see in a small town Canadian dive. When not sidled up at the bar, or during commercial breaks, patrons can opt for a game of darts, pool, bubble hockey, Ms. Pacman, and/or air hockey.
The Maple Leaf is equipped with a fully stocked bar, rotating 15 beers on tap, as well as an array of bottled beers ranging from local brewery options, ciders, and numerous Canadian brews such as Molson, Moosehead, Labatt Blue, and (our personal favorite) Unibroue’s La Fin Du Monde. Cocktail options are also available, just ask the bartender.
From the kitchen, the pub cooks up appetizers such as nachos, poutine, and fried cheese curds; entrees including hot dogs, burgers, basmati bowls, and wings; as well as brunch dishes available from noon to 3 pm on Saturdays and Sundays that feature chicken and waffles, creamy sticky banana split waffles, and steak & eggs.
The pub also offers an array of brunch libations not limited to their Proud Mary Keep On Burning – a Bloody Mary with homemade bacon and jalapeño-infused vodka; Siberian Tiger – fresh cold brew and melted vanilla ice cream poured over cinnamon sugar-infused vodka; and Logan’s Run – pineapple-infused tequila with grapefruit juice, ginger beer, and a dash of simple syrup.
Throughout the week, the pub hosts a number of events including NHL and Pub Quizzes every Thursday, Karoake on Fridays, and Hockey Night in Houston on Saturdays.
The Maple Leaf is open from 3 pm to midnight Mondays through Thursdays; from 3 pm to 2 am on Fridays; noon to 2 am on Saturdays; and noon to midnight on Sundays.
See you at puck drop!
