While you might not be familiar with their fried chicken, you’ve definitely heard the name. Bojangles is a fried chicken institution famous for its Cajun fried chicken and buttermilk biscuits. This winter, the franchise plans to open its first Bojangles Houston location.
How it took this long for Bojangles to open a location in Houston is a bit of a headscratcher. Taking a look at its other outposts, Bojangles — though primarily based in Southeastern US — has locations in 17 US states as well as Honduras, Jamaica, and even China. In Texas, Bojangles has 11 locations.
This February, Bojangles will open its first location in Houston at 6719 N. Grand Parkway in Spring. Following the opening on February 4, Bojangles plans a wider expansion in the area with slated locations in League City, Tomball, and Webster in 2025.
The franchise was founded in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1977 and began franchising the following year. Since its inception the Bojangles has opened around 800 locations. According to lore, co-founder Jack Fulk chose the name after hearing the song Mr. Bojangles by Jerry Jeff Walker on the radio.
Bojangles is renowned for its Cajun-spiced, hand-breaded chicken in the form of chicken tenders, chicken sandwiches, and chicken biscuits. Bojangles’ biscuits are scratch-made. For sides, the venue serves fries, baked mac & cheese, dirty rice, cole slaw, and hashbrown-type Bo-Tato Rounds. Breakfast is available until 2 pm.
In true southern fashion, the venue’s dessert menu includes a peach cobbler, as well as a Bo Berry Biscuit and milkshakes available in French vanilla, chocolate, and Boberry flavors.
The Bojangles in Houston will not serve chicken bone-in on account of consumer demand.
