The season of witches, cauldrons, and monsters is almost here, Houston. While mapping out all of the terrific Halloween events in Houston this October, be sure to enter the Black Lagoon pop-up at Nickel City.
Nickel City is an Austin transplant that at its flagship in the capital garnered a swathe of accolades beloved for its seasonal pop-ups including a Moe’s Tavern Simpsons takeover and over-the-top Christmas bash. Since its inception, the dive opened an outpost in Fort Worth, and most recently, a “rust belt chic”, rum-focused patio bar in East Downtown, Houston early this year.
This October, the so-called Kings of Late Night have something spooky in store for Houston. Kicking off on October 11, the venue will be transformed into a terrific Black Lagoon pop-up.
Much like the Christmas-themed Sippin’ Santa and Miracle pop-ups, Black Lagoon is an over-the-top, cocktail experience that takes over bars across the continent. Incepted by hospitality industry veterans, Kelsey Ramage and Erin Hayes, back in 2021, the Black Lagoon pop-up is a goth, metal-flavored event that features immersive decor, seasonal soundtracks, and themed spirits.
While visitors certainly don’t have to dress up, visitors are more than welcome to dress up in costume to add to the atmosphere. According to the event website, each Black Lagoon will also feature Emo Night each Wednesday during its run.
The Black Lagoon pop-up takes place at Nickel City at 2910 McKinney from October 11 to October 31. Nickel City is open from noon to 2 am every day. The venue also serves an assortment of American fare with options including wings, coneys, hamburgers, and more.
