Ben & Jerry’s wonderfully sweet Free Cone Day returns today, Tuesday, April 8.. From 12 pm to 8 pm, participating Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops across the country — including right here in Houston — will be handing out completely free scoops of ice cream. And guess what? You can go back as many times as you want.
Originally started in 1979 at Ben & Jerry’s first-ever ice cream stand – housed inside a renovated gas station in Burlington, Vermont – the company aimed to thank its fans after their first year in business, Free Cone Day has since grown into a global celebration of community, ice cream, and good vibes. Last year alone, Ben & Jerry’s dished out over one million scoops worldwide.
“Free Cone Day has always been about gratitude – we want to thank our fans for being the best fans in the world with free ice cream and a moment of pure joy,” said Dave Stever, Ben & Jerry’s CEO, in a press release.
“This year, more than ever, we’re reminded how powerful those small moments of happiness can be. We can’t wait to connect with our fans over a scoop of ice cream on the most Ben & Jerry-est day of the year!”
As far as flavors go, expect to find all your favorites — Phish Food, Cherry Garcia, Mango, Chocolate Fudge Brownie — and plenty of non-dairy options, too.
As far as how to get your free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream in Houston, it’s simple: simply go to the store, wait in line, grab your cone, and get served some tasty ice cream. No purchase necessary! Is it just one serving per customer? Nope! Just get back in line and do it all over again.
