Houston Astros fans might be little downtrodden in the aftermath of the past season, but in light of the recent news, there’s even more to be excited for in the coming seasons.
At the Central Houston economic development organization State of Downtown presentation this past Thursday, team representatives announced the Astros’ plans for a brand new entertainment district outside of Minute Maid Park.
With work slated to begin as soon as next year General Counsel Giles Kibbe told Houston Chronicle, the coming entertainment project would transform the surrounding southeastern area outside of Minute Maid Park into an entertainment district akin to Busch Stadium’s Ballpark Village.

As of now, the conceptual plans haven’t yet been fully fleshed out, but proposals consist of a 17-story, 300-room luxury hotel and 60,000-square-feet of shopping and retail space. According to Houston Chronicle, the team is consulting with Toyota Center’s real estate center Hines as well as HKS, the firm behind Globe Life Field of the Texas Rangers to better conceptualize the project.
“This is for the city for decades,” said Giles Kibbe to Houston Chronicle. “We know how important this is for the city, and this is a lot bigger than the Astros.”
“On the side of Minute Maid, there’s going to be a massive jumbotron so people up and down the street could watch the game,” Kibbe added.
While the project could reportedly begin next year, stated that there is no set timeline for the project. Kibbe did state as well that the Astros’ team is “ready to go”.
