One of Houston’s most colorful and wonderfully weird traditions is gearing up to take over the streets once again! The 39th Annual Houston Art Car Parade Weekend is officially returning from April 9–12, 2026, transforming the city into a vibrant, high-octane canvas of creativity.
Produced by the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, this beloved four-day festival culminates in the world-famous parade on Saturday, April 11. Whether you’re a die-hard “cartist” or a first-timer, here is everything you need to know about the most anticipated weekend in Houston.
A Houston Tradition Like No Other
For nearly four decades, the Art Car Parade has proven that art doesn’t just belong in a gallery—sometimes, it belongs on four wheels (or three, or six!). What started as a small grassroots gathering in the mid-80s has ballooned into the largest celebration of its kind on the planet.
This year, over 250 wildly inventive masterpieces—from fire-breathing dragons to baroque-style armadillos and “SLABs”—will roll through Downtown. More than 300,000 spectators are expected to line the streets to witness the spectacle, making it the largest free cultural event in the city.
2026 Grand Marshals & Featured Artist
This year’s celebration shines a spotlight on Houston’s icons. Leading the pack as the 2026 Grand Marshals are Houston soccer legend Brian Ching and the Grammy-winning powerhouse frontwoman of The Suffers, Kam Franklin.
Additionally, visual artist Phillip Pyle II has been named the 2026 Featured Artist. Known for his bold work exploring race and pop culture through graphic design, Pyle’s creative voice perfectly captures the fearless spirit of the Art Car movement.

The 2026 Weekend Schedule
The festivities kick off long before the first engine revs on Saturday. Here is the official rundown:
- Thursday, April 9: The Main Street Drag (9 AM – 1 PM) The “mini-parades” bring the art to the people! Catch various art cars visiting schools, nursing homes, and hospitals across Houston.
- Thursday, April 9: Art Car Sneak Peek (6 PM – 10 PM) Head to Discovery Green and Avenida Houston for your first look at nearly 100 mobile masterpieces. Meet the artists, enjoy live music, and soak in the pre-parade vibes.
- Friday, April 10: The Legendary Art Car Ball (6 PM – 11 PM) This is widely considered the wildest party of the year. Located in Downtown for 2026, the ball features immersive performance art, fire-breathing cars, and “artistic chaos” that teeters somewhere between Burning Man and Mardi Gras. Tickets are required.
- Saturday, April 11: The 39th Annual Houston Art Car Parade (11 AM – 4 PM) The main event!
- 11 AM: The Parade Route and Lineup Party open along Allen Parkway. Get up close to the cars before they roll!
- 11 AM – 2 PM: The H-E-B Kids Creative Zone at Sam Houston Park offers free hands-on activities.
- 2 PM: The parade officially begins at Dallas and Bagby, circling City Hall before heading outbound on Allen Parkway toward Waugh Drive.
- Sunday, April 12: Art Car Awards Ceremony (11 AM – 2 PM) The weekend wraps up at The Orange Show World Headquarters, where over $16,000 in prize money is awarded to the top creators.
