Just a month ago Houston was hit with the news that its beloved ballpark, Minute Maid Park, would be changing its name. Effective this January, the home of the Houston Astros be known as Daikin Park. While the first official baseball game at Daikin Park won’t occur until March, with games slated for the Sugar Land Space Cowboys followed by the Houston Astros on March 27, the venue will host its first softball game this February for the third annual Cactus Jack Foundation HBCU Celebrity Softball Classic.
The Celebrity Softball Classic will take place at the to-be-named Daikin Park on February 13 and will feature a Home Run Derby and Softball Game between A-list celebrities, baseball legends, and other iconic athletes.
Marking its third year, the Celebrity Softball Classic is an event lead by Travis Scott and the Cactus Jack Foundation is in collaboration with Project H.E.A.L., that support of providing scholarship opportunities for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUSs). Ticket proceeds will go toward the Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund which provides financial assistance to HBCU seniors.
Tentative celebrities slated to participate in the Celebrity Softball Classic in Houston include: Travis Scott, Dave Chappelle, Swae Lee, Ne-Yo, Don Toliver, Scarface, Amber Rose, Metro Boomin, Teyana Taylor,
Baseball greats slated to participate at the softball game include Jeff Bagwell, Jeremy Peña, Albert Pujols, Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr., Ryan Howard, Gary Sheffield, Michael Brantley, Prince Fielder, Robinson Canó, Andre Dawson, Mauricio Dubón, CC Sabathia, Kyle Tucker, Pedro Martínez, and Andruw Jones.
Other athletes to play in the Softball game include C.J. Stroud, Tracy McGrady, Adrian Peterson, Carl Lewis, Terrell Owens, Stefon Diggs, Justin Jefferson, Emmitt Smith, Andre Johnson, Warren Moon, and Johnny Manziel.
Organizers will release more participating players as the event draws near.
Ticket holders of the Celebrity Softball Classic will have access to exclusive Cactus Jack merch, as well as prizes, giveaways, and raffles. The event will also feature the Second Annual Cactus Jack Social Impact Village, a designated area of community organizations on the main concourse.
The three-day event will kick off on February 11 with community events for Cactus Jack Foundation Community Action Week. Slated events for this week include the inaugural Cactus Jack Foundation and Houston Astros Foundation Youth Clinic at the Astros Youth Academy and an art charity pop-up show at Cact.Us Design Center
The Celebrity Softball Classic will take place on Thursday, February 13, at Daikin Park in Houston. The Home Run Derby is scheduled for 7 pm followed by the Celebrity Softball Classic at 7:30 pm. Tickets are on sale here.
