What’s been called the “greatest show in sports”, Banana Ball is a fast-paced, high-energy comedic spin on the game of baseball á la Harlem Globetrotters. Founded in 2020 by the Savannah Bananas, the game has picked up over the years gaining massive traction on TikTok and selling out regular stadium tours. Recently, news was announced that Texas is the latest expansion with the new Texas Tailgaters Banana Ball team.
What is Banana Ball?
Banana Ball is a comedic, accelerated form of baseball that amps of the entertainment value of the classic games. Some of its rules include a two-hour time limit, no bunting, no walks, and outs called when fans catch foul balls. The game is proliferated with all sorts of antics including choreographed dances, trick plays, and players on stilts.
About the Texas Tailgaters Banana Ball team
The Texas Tailgaters is the fifth team in the Banana Ball league – joining the Savannah Bananas, Party Animals, Firefighters, and Visitors. The Texas Tailgaters aren’t based in any single one city, nor have a home stadium. They are, however, the first semi-regional team that’s not based in Savannah. Most of the team’s games will take place throughout Texas.
One of the players for the Texas Tailgaters is former Party Animals’ players, Jordan Hussein, a Texas native:
“I get to represent my home state,” Hussein said. “I got to learn a lot from the Party Animals last year, so I’m very thankful for them, wish them nothing but the best. But, I have a new team to compete on and a new state to show some pride for, so I’m very excited.”
When do the Texas Tailgaters play?
The Texas team’s inaugural season kicks off later this year during the Savannah Bananas’ 2025 World Tour. The tour includes multiple games in Texas, include a match-up scheduled at Daikin Park in Houston on September 26 and September 27 against the Savannah Bananas.
