Say what you will about our state but we here know that at the end of the day, Texas is where you want to hang your hat. And it turns out it’s not just us – or our clear bias; in recent years, Texas has become the most popular state for Gen Z transplants.
Housing enterprise Zillow recently published a study analyzing Gen Z relocation destinations. The study found that rather than the likes of California, New York, or Illinois, Texas is the most moved-to state by far.
“Texas far and away gained the most Gen Z movers,” the publication reads.
“When adding up inbound and subtracting outbound moves, the Lone Star State had a net gain of more than 76,000 Gen Z movers. California gained the second highest number, followed by Florida, which saw the highest net migration among all interstate movers.”
As for why, Edward Berchick, Zillow’s principal population scientist told FOX News Digital it’s due to job opportunities, relative affordability, and available housing.
“Texas offers job opportunities and relative affordability. Many parts of Texas have been successful [in] building a lot of new housing to better accommodate its new residents.”
The study also pointed how Texas encountered the largest national numeric change in population over the year with the addition of 473,453 people.
California received the second highest influx of Gen Z residents. Although the state experienced the highest outbound migration nationally, the state had a net growth of 43,913 people.
Important to note, the study excluded respondents who reported to be students in the past three months so as not to conflate the numbers with Gen Z moving to attend university.
