Houston is undeniably a haven for barbecue aficionados. The city is already stacked with world-class options, not excluding Michelin-Starred, Michelin Bib Gourmand, and Michelin Recommended barbecue restaurants. Now, the Bayou City is gearing up to welcome another heavyweight: Terry Black’s BBQ,.
While many immediately associate Terry Black’s with its bustling Austin outpost, the family’s barbecue lineage traces back to 1932 with the opening of the original Black’s Barbecue in Lockhart by Edgar Black. That flagship location built a legendary reputation for authentic Central Texas-style smoked meats and classic sides. Decades later, in 2014, Edgar’s grandsons, Mark and Michael Black, branched out to launch Terry Black’s BBQ in Austin.

This past Thursday, Black Family Hospitality issued a press release detailing the barbecue restaurant’s expansion. In addition to new restaurants in New Braunfels, Nashville, and San Antonio. the company announced its Houston opening date: Tuesday, August 18.
Under the subhead “August 2026 | Houston, Texas” the press release reads:
“The highly anticipated opening of Terry Black’s Barbecue will introduce the brand’s celebrated Central Texas barbecue to one of the nation’s premier culinary markets, further strengthening the company’s presence in one of the country’s largest metropolitan areas”.

In addition to the highly anticipated Houston spot at 1311 N. Shepherd Dr., the project also includes a two-story boutique hotel. Mark Black has shared that they envision the lodging as a series of bungalows, though the exact concept has been evolving. According to reports, the hotel is expected to open at a later date.
“Our family has never measured success by the number of restaurants we open,” said Mark Black, Co-Founder of Black Family Hospitality. “We’ve always believed in creating places where people gather, celebrate and build traditions. Every concept offers a different experience, exceptional food, genuine hospitality and meaningful connections.”
Terry Black’s BBQ opens at 1329 N. Shepherd Drive on Tuesday, August 18. Be apprised that the debut is likely to draw crowds of local barbecue lovers, so we strongly encourage arriving early. The restaurant will be open daily from 10:30 am – 9:30 pm Sunday through Thursday, and until 10 pm on Friday and Saturday.
