Bayou City is a barbecue-lovers dream. Throughout the city are a number of incredible barbecue restaurants, including the Michelin-Starred Corkscrew BBQ in Old Town Spring and the Michelin Bib Gourmand earners, Killen’s BBQ, Pinkerston’s BBQ, The Pit Room, and Truth BBQ. Soon, Houston will be the home of another beloved barbecue institution: Terry Black’s BBQ.
While Terry Black’s in Austin might be the first to come to mind for many of us, the barbecue joint opened its flagship restaurant as Black’s Barbecue in Lockhart in 1932. Founded by Edgar Black, the barbecue restaurant gained notoriety for its Central Texas-style smoked meats, quality cuts, and delicious sides. In 2014, Edgar Black’s grandsons Mark and Michael Black opened Terry Black’s BBQ in Austin as a separate venture.

The barbecue restaurant now has locations in Austin, Dallas, and Fort Worth. Texas Monthly named its Dallas location as of its top 50 Texas barbecue joints. Presently, the company plans to open locations in San Antonio and Houston.
In regards to the Terry Black’s Houston location, the restaurant is planned planted at 1301 N Shepherd Dr. among a two-story boutique hotel. In regards to the latter, Black is aiming to create the lodging area in the form of bungalows, but has stated that the idea is still one that’s developing.

“We want to make it feel like ‘the living room of the neighborhood’,” said Mark Black. “We want to give it a space where it’s not just driven by the guests staying at the hotel facilities, but also a destination for the residents in the neighborhood.”
Other planned amenities for the space include landscaped courtyards, a day spa, and pool. According to The Leader, the Black family plan to begin construction on the site this year. Beyond which, no planned opening date has been announced.
