Let your freak flag fly at the National Museum of Funeral History this July for the Summer-Ween Luau Market. Here, the museum invites visitors donned in either Johnny Bahamas or their full costumed get-up to explore its market of over 40 oddity, occult, and artisan vendors, with wicked drinks, food, and more.
With the Fourth of July in the rearview, the novelty of summer begins to wear thin. The fireworks are gone, the heat continues to be oppressive, and unless planning a late-summer vacation, the rest of summer can be a slog. Thus, the hype for our next fun holiday sets in — even it’s over one hundred days away.
Thankfully, we won’t have to wait that long to get in on the fun. On Friday, July 17, Houston’s own funeral museum is throwing a Summer-Ween Luau Market — where spooky meets luau. Kicking off at 7 pm, the beach goth affair will feature a market with dozens of freaky fun vendors alongside drinks and bites.
As a celebration of Halloween in the summer, visitors are encouraged to dress in either Hawaiian attire, or to test-run their Halloween costume.
The Summer-Ween Luau Market at the National Museum of Funeral History (415 Barren Springs Drive) takes place from 7 pm — 10 pm on Friday, July 17. General Admission tickets are priced at $25, and include two drinks tickets as well as admission to the museum. VIP Admission is also available.
Priced at $75, VIP ticketholders are entitled to one-hour early entry, access to the VIP lounge with a buffet of lite bites, four drink tickets, a commemorative glass tumbler, and a pair of genuine leather earrings.
Launched in 1992, the National Museum of Funeral History is a 30,000-square-foot museum home to the largest collection of authentic historical funeral artifacts. NMFH features 19 permanent exhibitions, covering everything from embalming rituals, to celebrity funerals, coffins, caskets, hearses, and more. Notably, NMFH possesses a certified copy of the Shroud of Turn as part of its exhibition, The Most Famous Burial of All Time: The Shroud of Turin.
