HAIM isn’t the only band of sisters making noise. Instead of wielding instruments, however, the quartet of Edwards sisters orchestrates a series of a mills, fermentation devices, and other such brewery devices at their buzzworthy 4J Brewing Company in Spring Branch.
4J Brewing Company is a 100% woman-owned business comprised of four sisters: Jessica, Jackie, Joanna, and Jennifer. After garnering acclaim at local gatherings, what began as a family hobby would grow into a full fledged business.
In March 2018, the sisters opened up 4J Brewing Company in Spring Branch. Located near the intersection of Westview and Blalock north of I 10, the brewery is an indoor/outdoor nano-brewery. Made with a family touch, the brewery features a variety items from the family’s 4J farm – such as its chalkboard frames, tap handle backing, and cedar bar top.
The family farm is also where the brewery’s spent grain goes, whether toward compost, to feed cattle, hogs, deer, and/or other wildlife.
As for brew, 4J aims to create beers with more flavor and alcohol that are easy to drink. Year round, the brewery serves Amber Ale, American Stout, and Blonde Ale. If the purchase is to-go, patrons can fill a growler, or take away a 4-pack of 16-oz cans.
Additionally, 4J serves wine, cider, seltzer, as well as non-alcoholic options such as root beer, coke, diet coke, sprite and Topo Chico. As for the food front, the brewery serves bratwurst, hotdogs plain or chili-cheese, and soft pretzels.
4J Brewing Company is open from 4 – 9 pm on Thursdays, 4 – 10 pm on Fridays, and from 2 – 1o pm on Saturdays at 1348 Cedar Post Lane. The brewery is kid and dog friendly.
