The towering, long-vacant Shadowdale grain elevators in West Houston are about to find a second life as the heartbeat of a stunning new mixed-use destination. Breaking ground this past February, Houston-based commercial real estate firm Moody National Development have officially launched the first phase of Silo Springs, a massive, 17-acre redevelopment that’s set to transform this industrial relic into a vibrant “live-work-play” ecosystem.
“Since we purchased this parcel, the size of five downtown city blocks, we partnered with our design, development and construction team to find the most optimal integration of the silos as a significant feature of the development,” Moody CEO Brett Moody said in a statement.
The Historic Silos
At the focal point of the development are the silos at 1235 Shadowdale Drive.
“Since we purchased this parcel, the size of five downtown city blocks, we partnered with our design, development and construction team to find the most optimal integration of the silos as a significant feature of the development,” said Moody National Companies CEO Brett Moody.
Toward that end, the firm plans to integrate walkways through the silos which will provide a centerpiece to the 80,000 square feet of retail and living spaces planned for the development (Phase 2). Furthermore, Moody National also has plans to create an “active art installation” inside the silos involving a water feature.

10-Year Timeline
Developers aim to complete the project in 10 years. Future phases are slated to include:

“We view this parcel like a lady-in-waiting whose debut, after a decades-long wait, has finally arrived,” said Moody.
