“Look for the helpers. You will always find people are helping” – Mister Rogers quoting his mother, Nancy Rogers.
As Texas slowly climbs out of the traumatic events of last week – while being gaslit by 70-degree weather – there’s still plenty of people in and out of Texas that are lending a hand to the Lonestar State. Yesterday, the Central Texas Food Bank announced that A-list actress, Sandra Bullock, made a donation of $250,000 to the food bank on behalf of the women of Ocean’s 8. The Central Texas Food Bank, as the largest hunger-relief charity in Central Texas, has provided free meals to those in need for the past 38 years. Just last year alone, the organization gave out 39 million meals to families and local communities who needed help.
During the past week, however, the organization had to cancel a number of food drops due to the storm. Now, the organization is back at it again with a little help from local organizations, businesses, and individual donors.
Yesterday, the food bank gave a shoutout to Academy Award-winning actress, Sandra Bullock, and the women of Ocean’s 8, donated $250,000 to the organization.
“The snowstorm challenged Central Texans like never before, but it has also showed us the incredible kindness of our community,” the food bank wrote in an Instagram post. “We are so thankful to receive a $250,000 donation from Sandra Bullock on behalf of the Women of Oceans 8. Their generosity will help provide 1 million nourishing meals for our neighbors in need. Thank you for helping our community recover. We’re stronger together!”
This past Monday, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez donated almost $300,000 to the food bank after raising over $5 million for relief efforts.
Other organizations that have lent a hand to the food bank this last week include H-E-B, which donated a “truck load” of Meal Simple Meals to the organization. Texas-based Tito’s Vodka, provided assistance in delivering meals to over 2,250 households, while Rambler donated a shipment of water.
