After long last, Houston’s Rooftop Cinema Club announces its return.
The Rooftop Cinema Club is an open-air theater on top of the Whole Foods in BLVD Place. It provides an atmosphere of what’s been called “social cinema” wherein viewers at times walk around and interact with the environment during the course of the movie. [Featured image: @rooftopcinemaclub]
Like other cinemas, RCC shuddered temporarily during the pandemic. Earlier this year, they were on the cusp of opening a drive-in theater at Navigation. The timing, however, could not have been worse for no sooner had it opened than did come the brutal Texas winter storm.
Finally, the cinema has announced its return with its signature rooftop theater re-opening this September.
“We’re SO excited to officially share that Rooftop Cinema Club Uptown is reopening this September,” the club wrote in an Instagram post.
Rooftop Cinema Club re-opens to the public on September 1st with a screening of Selena. Other films scheduled for the month include Dazed and Confused, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, La La Land, Ratatouille, and 10 Things I Hate About You.
In the same post as the announcement, Rooftop Cinema Club said that the The Drive-In on Navigation would not be returning. Stay tuned for more details.
