Record Store Day 2026 drops this weekend. Whether you’re hoping to score re-issues, B-sides, and live recording – or are simply seeking to stack your own catalogue with personal favorites, check out our list of the best record stores in Houston. From staples of Houston’s counterculture to hip brunch spots, speakeasies, and more: here are the best vinyl stores in Houston.
Sig’s Lagoon

Nestled in the company of Double Trouble Caffeine & Cocktails, Tacos A Go Go, and The Continental Club in Midtown, Sig’s Lagoon is a seriously stacked two-story Houston record store. In addition to over 10,0000 new and used vinyl, Sig’s offers a range of CDs, books, art, t-shirts, and collectibles.
Cactus Music

Known as Houston’s oldest independent music store, Cactus Music has been a cornerstone of the city scene for over 40 years. As an ode to its original Heights store, Cactus Music houses The Record Ranch vinyl-only store and gallery. In addition to its countless crates of new and used vinyl, Cactus Music regularly hosts in-store events from listening parties to in-store performances, including a secret show by Khruangbin last April.
Vinal Edge Records

The Heights-based independently-owned record and CD shop specializes in new & used vinyl, CDs, and stereo pieces. Nestled in 19th Street, one of the few walkable areas in Houston, Vinal Edge also features a selection of clothing, art works, totes, and other memorabilia.
Lonesome Frog Records
A relative newcomer to Houston, Lonesome Frog Records is a vinyl shop and music store in Spring Branch. In addition to its genre-spanning LP selection, the store features a variety of audio equipment, including turntables, as well as speakers, cassette decks, posters, apparel, and other audio equipment.
Sound Revolution

Established in 1976, Sound Revolution is another longstanding Houston staple. The family-owned shop is the largest record store in North Houston. Now with two locations in the city, Sound Revolution features a wide selection of new and used vinyl along with CD and cassettes — all of which it buys. Additionally, Sound Revolution regularly hosts in-store listening parties and performances.
Sound Exchange
Now located in East End, Sound Exchange is a longstanding Houston establishment. Here, music lovers can find a deep catalogue with a notably extensive selection of metal, punk, industrial and sub-genres under the “alternative” banner. The venue features an old school record shop feel where patrons can alike find a selection of music books, magazines, and refurbished audio equipment.
Space City Audio

Located in the historic Old Town Spring, Space City Audio is an audiophile-forward hi-fi shop. In addition to an ample selection vinyl, Space City Audio features top-on-the-line audio equipment as well turntable repair, pop culture collectibles.
Mo’ Brunch And Brews
A unique fusion of a record lounge and an outdoor bar, Mo Brunch and Brews in Museum District offers a plant-based brunch experience with a flavor of Houston’s soul. While you’re waiting for Hot Honey ‘Shrooms & Grits, be sure to peruse the venue’s shop curated by Flash Gordon Parks.
Screwed Up Records & Tapes

While more of a cultural landmark than a record store, Screwed Up Tapes & Records is a must-visit for hip-hops fans. Serving as the headquarters and archive of Houston’s legendary chopped and screwed creator, DJ Screw, the shop offers a range of Screw Tapes — primarily available in CD form. The store also offers a selection of merchandise, including t-shirts, beanies, and posters.

Opened in late 2023, Off The Record is a jazzy speakeasy and listening lounge in Downtown, Houston. Off The Record is primarily known for its mixology room, where visitors sip on music-themed cocktails to resident DJs; however, visitors are encouraged to check out the storefront, that is, a fully operational vinyl store.
