Texas resident and sonic superstar, Post Malone – real name, Austin Post – was a beacon of good cheer this past holiday season. On camera, the 29-year-old musician performed as himself in the coming-of-age Christmas comedy, Dear Santa. In real life, Posty left a Houston waitress with a “life-changing” Christmas present.
According to Music Mayhem, the rapper was in Houston this past Christmas Eve, when he visited The Railyard bar in the Galleria area of Houston. Renee Brown, a single mother, was working the late shift at the dive bar – this is one of Brown’s two jobs.
“Going into work Christmas Eve, I was so sad I had to leave my baby girl to go to work,” Brown told Music Mayhem. “We usually bake cookies and watch Christmas movies, and this was the first time I wasn’t able to do that.”
Later into the night, Post Malone visited the bar along with star singer-songwriter Shaboozey of A Bar Song (Tipsy) fame, and a number of friends. When a coworker told her that the two were out on the bar’s patio, Brown reportedly told her regulars to be cool so that the artists could experience a semblance of normalcy.
At closing time, Malone requested the group’s bill but came to find that someone from his group along with a couple regulars had already paid for their drinks. Malone, however, insisted that he be charged with something so that he could leave a tip.
Brown agreed to ring him up for a dollar. Following her closing process, Brown was entering her tips when she discovered that Post Malone had left her a tip of $20,000.
“I immediately broke down crying. It was a very emotional night already being away from home, being swamped behind the bar, trying to process that they were even there and then the tip on top,” Brown told Music Mayhem.
Thankfully, Malone was still on site when Brown discovered the tip so that she could thank him.
“I finally got a chance to stop cleaning and talk to him some more and thank him. I know I was crying and thanking him, but he has no ideas exactly how much this meant to me.”
With the money, Brown plans to pay rent, save, and hopefully use the funds to start a business wherein she wouldn’t have to work two jobs and be away from her daughter.
“Things have been extremely difficult, and this was truly a blessing that I can’t fully put into words. The visit alone was absolutely amazing and something I could talk about and remember for the rest of my life,” Brown said.
“This is hands down the most humble, personable celebrity I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. He changed my life on Christmas f—king Eve, and will forever be grateful. Thank you so much, Austin.”
